Asbestos Related Lung Disease

Inhalation of asbestos fibers can result in a number of asbestos related lunge diseases including lunge cancer, asbestosis, benign pleural effusion, pleural plaques, and malignant mesothelioma. Although asbestos exposure is now regulated their is still continuing patient cases with these diseases because of the long latent period between asbestos exposure and clinical disease.

Asbestos related lung disease signs and symptoms tend to be nonspecific. High risk populations for asbestos related lunge disease include construction workers, boilermakers, shipyard workers, railroad workers, and Navy veterans. Most patients that have asbestos related lung disease have a history with a strong exposure to asbestos. However, significant asbestos related lung disease can occur with minimal exposure.

Types of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos or asbestos related materials. Mesothelioma is separated into two groups, malignant and benign. Rarely is mesothelioma benign, so frequently any mention of the condition refers to its malignant state. If you or someone you know thinks they  may have mesothelioma you should visit a doctor immediately.

The three main types of malignant mesotheliomas cells: epithelioid, sarcomatoid, and mixed/biphasic.

  • Epithelioid is the most common kind and also has the best possibility of survival. It affects the covering surrounding the internal organs and internal surfaces in the body.
  • Sarcomatoid is more serious, and it affects the secondary tissues such as bone, muscles, cartilage, and/or fat.
  • Mixed/biphasic refers to both types of cancers at once.

Aside from the types of cancerous cells, there are three main types of mesothelioma, and each affects a different area of the body.  The three types of mesothelioma cancer are: Read the rest of this entry »

Mesothelioma Litigation

Mesothelioma litigation is more important than ever With mesothelioma on the rise, and new cases of mesothelioma cancer coming to light on a regular basis. Mesothelioma litigation has become a billion dollar industry in claims against manufacturers of asbestos as well as the companies that may have exposed staff to asbestos substances without warning and without adequate protection. There are many lawyers that are mesothelioma specialists and deal specifically with mesothelioma cases and litigation,

When choosing a lawyer relating to an asbestos or mesothelioma lawsuit it is important that you find a lawyer that has experience in mesothelioma litigation. An experienced mesothelioma lawyer will have already established experience in this type of case to help your compensation claim and lawsuit along.

If you or a family member is suffering from asbestos or mesothelioma you should file a mesothelioma lawsuit claim and speak to a lawyer immediately before it is too late.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma

Peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare form of malignant mesothelioma, making up less than 30% of the people diagnosed with mesothelioma. Peritoneal mesothelioma affects the cells of the peritoneum, also known as the abdominal lining, which protects the organs in the abdomen.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma Symptoms

Peritoneal mesothelioma is a very late onset form of cancer. It’s common for 20 or 30 years after the initial asbestos exposure before peritoneal mesothelioma symptoms begin to appear.

Peritoneal mesothelioma symptoms include:

  • Abdominal pain or swelling
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Fever or night sweats
  • Anemia
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fatigue

Peritoneal mesothelioma symptoms are non-specific and often associated with other less serious conditions. Malignant mesothelioma diagnosis is therefore often made too late for a curative treatment to be an option.

Most patients with peritoneal mesothelioma, treatment is palliative, and is designed to provide relief from the peritoneal mesothelioma symptoms and to reduce the rate the mesothelioma cancer spreads.

Asbestos Containing Products

Because asbestos has been used in over 3,000 products, most people have suffered some degree of exposure to asbestos at one point in their lives. Most asbestos exposure is limited to small quantities of well maintained building materials such as insulation, siding, and concrete. Regular maintenance of these products is key to preventing asbestos from degenerating into the airborne asbestos fibers that wreak havoc on the human body.

Even a very tiny amount of asbestos can inflict irreversible damage to your lungs, as symptoms usually only emerge 20 to 30 years after the  initial exposure to asbestos. Read the rest of this entry »

Asbestos Related Diagnosed Conditions

Asbestos exposure is responsible for a number of deadly illnesses. Asbestos related diseases are incurable and agonizing. Most conditions related to asbestos exposure do not exhibit any symptoms until the disease is terminally advanced. Most individuals diagnosed with an asbestos related condition rarely survive more than 2 years after their diagnosis.

Common conditions that people are diagnosed with due to asbestos exposure include:
  • Asbestosis
  • Mesothelioma
  • Pleural Thickening
  • Pleural Effusions
  • Pleural Plaques

Time is critical if you or someone you know have been exposed to asbestos. Early detection and treatment of asbestos related diseases will improve the length and quality of life, but cannot cure these terrible diseases.

If you or someone you know has suffered because of asbestos exposure, you must consult an experienced asbestos lawyer about any possible mesothelioma or asbestosis  compensation.

Asbestosis Symptoms

Most individuals that have long-term asbestos exposure do not start experiencing asbestosis symptoms until a 20 to 30 years after initial exposure to asbestos. Asbestosis symptoms begin to develop after scarring occurs from the asbestos fibers in your lung tissue.

Common asbestosis symptoms include:

  • Breathlessness
  • Persistent Cough
  • Tiredness
  • Decreased Tolerance for Physical Activity
  • Coughing Blood
  • Chest Pain

Although most asbestosis symptoms and signs are similar to other breathing disorders, such as asthma, they’re different in the way they develop. The effects of asbestosis occur over years.

Congestive Heart Failure

Most deaths from asbestosis is connected with congestive heart failure. The heart over exerts itself to push blood through the damaged lungs. The heart will continue to weaken as fluid builds up in the lungs. The fluid buildup makes the heart pump even harder. The heart will weaken and become overworked to the point where it fails, causing death.

If you’re suffering from asbestosis you should get the compensation you deserve by submitting a lawsuit claim to an asbestos lawyer

Asbestos Exposure

Most people that are suffering with asbestos related illnesses was a result of occupational exposure to asbestos. People that have worked in asbestos mines, manufacturing plants where asbestos products were made, and asbestos processing plants have a high risk of occupational exposure to asbestos.

Other job sites that had a high risk of asbestos exposure in the past are auto-manufacturing plants, shipyards, oil refineries, power plants, and chemical plants. People that have worked at these type of job sites may have asbestos exposure from the  many different types of asbestos products and materials they’ve worked with in the past. They now could be  at risk of developing asbestosis or mesothelioma.
